Join the momentum. We are seeking a Senior Accountant for our growing Assurance Professional Standards team. Delivering quality in everything we do, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Assurance and Accounting team is committed to providing meaningful and reliable financial information that ensures our clients are always well protected and positioned. Specifically, our Assurance Professional Standards Group (APSG) works internally to support the delivery of assurance services, the development and coordination of assurance training materials and the communication of assurance matters throughout the firm.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Performance Expectations

  • Assist in delivering industry and technical expertise in audit and assurance through client interactions, written reports, technical work, management presentations and the production of high quality deliverables
  • Assist in establishing engagement policies, guidelines and procedures, tools, and the on-going development on MNP’s extensive in-house education programs
  • Contribute your professional knowledge and technical expertise on a variety of technical assurance and accounting matters, with a focus on practical application to our clients
  • Research and respond to queries under ASPE, IFRS, US GAAP, CAS standards
  • Assist in providing practical solutions on auditing issues to engagement teams
  • Stay informed of changes in the profession by attending relevant industry events/webinars as well as information sessions
  • Transfer knowledge attained through conferences/training sessions to team members and in the development of tools and materials used in firm training
  • Collaborate with the CaseWare development team, creating, modifying, and improving current business processes
  • Work alongside managers and partners to address standards issues
  • Ensure technical contributions are accurate and of high quality
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using MNP internal programs and systems
  • Raise awareness of MNP at community events
  • Coach and mentor junior team members
  • Promote regular attendance, balanced lifestyle and high standard of team wellness
  • Attend internal MNP courses to further develop accounting and assurance knowledge

Credentials

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting and/or Finance major is preferred)
  • Completion of CPA designation or working towards a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation; completion of CFE examination and working towards relevant practical experience requirements will also be considered
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of accounting related experience in public accounting
  • Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Profile, Quickbooks and Simply Accounting is preferred
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), and Accounting Standards for Not-For Profit Organizations (ASNPO) is considered an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of technical writing and project management skills
  • Some travel may be required
