    Join the momentum. We are seeking a Senior Manager, Expatriate Tax (Cross-Border Services) for our growing Expatriate Tax team. Providing the highest level of excellence, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Tax team works with individuals and organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors providing comprehensive strategies that minimize risk, meet tax compliance and reporting requirements, drive efficiencies and maximize returns. Specifically, our Expatriate Tax team provides businesses and their employees with taxation advice regarding domestic and foreign assignments to meet compliance and help mitigate their risk. The team also provides U.S. and Canadian residents with taxation advice related to all aspects of cross-border tax compliance and planning.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Performance Expectations

    • Lead multiple client facing engagement teams and manage U.S. and combined U.S.- Canadian individual income and estate tax return preparation for:
      • U.S. citizens living in Canada, particularly entrepreneurs
      • U.S. residents working in Canada
      • Canadians working and investing in the U.S.
    • Working closely with Partners and Senior Managers, manage tax planning and compliance engagements for individuals with U.S. and Canadian tax requirements
    • Accountable for the delivery of industry and technical expertise relating to Canadian and U.S. individual income tax, social security and international tax treaties
    • Oversee and innovate engagement planning, budgeting, coordination of the compliance process and the collection of data and billing
    • Participate in expatriate policy design and implementation and in expatriate compensation design and implementation
    • Carry out cross-border income tax and estate planning
    • Maintain high quality control by reviewing tax returns and other work done from other team members for accuracy and completeness; provide feedback to team members
    • Develop strong client relationships by providing high quality, timely, and innovative tax services to our clients
    • Identify methods to innovate the client experience and maximize value on client deliverables
    • Network and take a leadership role in the local professional and business community while raising awareness of MNP and looking for new business development opportunities
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to managers and staff
    • Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment focusing on cross-border taxation needs of our clients
    • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlines
    • Manage a team of reviewers and preparers and coordinate workflow between local team and foreign offices

    Credentials

    • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) with a U.S. designation (CPA or EA) (Other professional accounting designation with experience will be considered. Completion of a US
    • Master’s Degree in Taxation would be a definite asset)
    • Solid understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles
    • Five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant work experience in public accounting and/or tax consulting
    • Excellent technical background in individual Canadian, U.S. and cross-border taxation issues with a strong understanding of tax treaties
    • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify and research issues and translate to meaningful solutions for our clientsExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Proven track record in building client relationships
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, supervising and mentoring staff while managing multiple work flows
    • Proficient with tax research methods and databases
    • Proficient with various tax and accounting software such as TaxPrep, ProSystems, GoSystem and CaseWare.
    • Some travel may be required
