    Join the momentum. We are seeking an Accounting Technician for our growing SR&ED Tax team. Providing the highest level of excellence, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Tax team works with individuals and organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, providing comprehensive strategies that minimize risk, meet tax compliance and reporting requirements, reduce costs and maximize returns.

    Performance Expectations

    • Assist clients in identifying, preparing and processing tax returns containing SR&ED claims
    • Prepare excel spreadsheets to summarize client labour, contract, material costs, and taxes owed
    • Learn and apply knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation as needed
    • Manage multiple ongoing projects while working with a cross-functional SR&ED team
    • Plan, organize and execute engagements on time and on budget, with an attention to detail and preparation of files without mistakes
    • Raise identified client issues that need to be addressed with managers and engagement partners
    • Effectively defend SR&ED claims upon CRA review. Present written arguments for eligibility in a concise, clearly communicated, written format that is compliant with CRA criteria
    • Correspond with clients and government agencies to address client tax compliance issues
    • Liaise and correspond professionally with clients, colleagues and the firm leadership team
    • Ability to follow instructions and established processes
    • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using MNP internal programs, systems, and specific SR&ED department processes
    • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas and deadlines
    • Attend internal MNP courses to further develop accounting taxation knowledge
    • Able to travel as required, mostly to meet with clients and SR&ED team members within the GTA


    • Completed post-secondary education program with an Accounting or Business focus
    • Previous accounting related office experience (CPA, CGA or CPA, CMA, Bookkeeping, etc.) including bookkeeping, preparation of financial statements / corporate tax returns is an asset
    • Experience with Accounting and Tax software: CaseWare, Profile, Tax Cycle, TaxPrep is beneficial
    • Strong computer literacy including advanced working skills of Excel and Excel templates (formulas, macros, pivot tables etc.), Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
    • Experience providing excellent client service is desirable
    • Genuine motivation to help clients
    • Positive attitude, and willingness to learn / grow in the position
    • Ability to work within an hour budget, and achieve deadlines
    • Good written and verbal communication to interface with clients
    • Ability to research, assemble arguments, and communicate effectively through the written word
    • Ability to work independently, as well as part of the SR&ED professional staff team
    • Proven track record in maintaining client business
