This role is the ideal opportunity for an experienced CPA, CA who has a passion for financial reporting to become a valued member of our National Office technical services team.  Delivering quality in everything we do, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Assurance and Accounting team is committed to providing meaningful and reliable financial information that ensures our clients are always well protected and positioned. Working internally, the successful candidate will add value by applying their deep knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and auditing standards to advise and assist practitioners to deliver high quality assurance services to MNP’s clients.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Performance Expectations

    • Provide advice and practical solutions on complex accounting and assurance issues
    • Research and respond to queries on the application of IFRS and auditing standards
    • Deliver industry and technical expertise in assurance and accounting through the creation of high-quality reports and presentations
    • Lead engagement quality control reviews of client files
    • Promote the importance of quality control to partners, managers and staff across the firm, and play an integral role in driving our quality initiatives
    • Support the development and maintenance of the Firm’s engagement policies, guidelines, and accounting and auditing protocols
    • Stay informed of changes in the profession through research and by attending relevant industry events and training/information sessions
    • Develop and facilitate accounting and assurance related training in MNP’s extensive, in-house education programs
    • Liaise and correspond professionally with practitioner colleagues and the firm leadership team
    • Liaise and correspond professionally with standard-setters, member bodies and regulators
    • Develop a thorough understanding of MNP’s services, businesses and industry
    • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
    • Leverage team members appropriately to ensure delivery of resources that are complete, accurate and timely
    • Mentor, motivate and coach team members towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and addressing performance issues promptly in addition to conducting formal, written performance reviews
    • Promote strong work effort, a balanced lifestyle and a high standard of team wellness

    Credentials

    • Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
    • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant work experience in public accounting
    • Significant experience in the provision of audit and assurance services to public companies
    • In-depth knowledge and experience in the application of auditing standards and IFRS
    • Familiarity with the inspection program of the Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB)
    • Experience in the design and execution of engagement procedures based on risk and materiality
    • Solid understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles
    • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Proven technical writing and project management skills
    • Some travel may be required
